Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Development Director, Individual Giving is responsible for raising funds from individuals, families, and family foundations for priorities set by The University of Kansas Health System. This position reports to the Senior Director, Philanthropy and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and close of a minimum of $2.5 - $5 million of revenue annually and is responsible for assisting the entire department with reaching its financial goals. Collaborating with leaders from The University of Kansas Health System to develop grateful patient and family relationships that will lead to transformational giving will be key to the success of this role. The University of Kansas Health System is currently undertaking an ambitious fundraising effort to change the future of care in our region through collaboration with The University of Kansas' on the: Ever Onward Campaign. This multibillion-dollar campaign is the largest in the health system's history. Philanthropy raised through the Ever-Onward Campaign for the health system is focused on building a destination Cancer Center building; advancing Brain Health; expanding Cardiovascular services; ensuring we retrain and recruit the best nursing workforce; launch a Women's Sports Clinic, and build a Precision Medicine program that is in alignment with the future of medicine.


Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Meet quarterly and annual fundraising goals as determined by the Sr. Director, Philanthropy;
  • Cultivate, solicit, and manage a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects with a giving capacity of $75,000+;
  • Secure $2.5-$5 million annually in revenue by meeting department metrics including: 12 visits a month, 20 proposals, with a close rate of 60%;
  • Serve as the team lead for a specific service line/priority area and cultivate relationships with health system leadership in that service line/priority area;
  • Track all donor/prospect activity in Raiser’s Edge NXT database;
  • Work collaboratively across the health system’s leadership, service lines, strategy, and with colleagues on the fund development team to maximize donor engagement and philanthropic commitment;
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of institutional priorities, enterprise-wide priorities, and service line priorities to present compelling funding opportunities and align them with donors interest.
  • Work with the stewardship team, fund management, event planning, and finance to ensure timely and appropriate stewardship reporting and engagement with donors.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Management or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 8 or more years of experience with a track record of successful major gift solicitations in $50,000 - $100,000 or more in a donor category.
  • 3 or more years of advancing relationships that result in philanthropic contributions gifts of $75,000 or more.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field of study from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 or more years of experience working within a complex and matrixed organization.
  • 3 or more years of fundraising experience in healthcare.
  • 3 or more years of experience fundraising at an organization with a cumulative annual revenue goal of more than $15 million dollars.


Knowledge Requirements

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency working within a CRM.
  • Ability to treat confidential information with a high level of discretion.
  • Ability to displays a positive attitude, shows concern for people and community, and demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of the team and independently.
  • Ability to evaluate problems accurately, make decisions independently and display good judgment. Possess innate ability for resourcefulness in obtaining information and in overcoming obstacles to carry out assignments with skill and tact.
