Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Genetic Counselor provides genetics assessment, diagnosis and counseling. This position serves our patients and families to assess individual or family risk for a variety of inherited genetic disorders, provides information to other healthcare providers or to individuals and families concerned with the risk of inherited conditions, advise individuals and families to support informed decision making and coping methods for those at risk, and also conduct research, educate, publish and perform administrative projects as discussed with their leadership team. This position is for the Adult Genetics Clinic and involves comprehensive genetic evaluation of adult patients referred for a broad range of inherited conditions, including neurogenetic, cardiogenetic, renal, endocrine, immunologic, neurological, and undiagnosed disorders. The role emphasizes close collaboration with the medical geneticist and the integration of genomic data into clinical decision-making. The genetic counselor will support test selection, interpret complex genomic results, contribute to multidisciplinary genetic testing initiatives, and serve as a clinical resource to providers across the health system

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Arranges collection of blood or other samples for clinical genetic testing.
- Assist in the treatment of patients and families with known genetic disorders and of patients at risk for the development of genetic disorders.
- Develops and implements genetic counseling services.
- Provides education and counseling and interprets results for genetically influenced cancers. Reviews patient information, evaluates family history, conducts risk assessment and recommends medical or genetic testing.
- Serves as liaison between patients and their referring physician
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Master's Degree in Genetics
- Bachelors Degree
- High School Graduate
Required Licensure and Certification
- Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) - American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) New graduate hires must obtain Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) certification through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) within 12 months of graduation from Masters in Genetic Counseling program. within 1 Year
