Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Coordinator in Surgery Services, who is also in a First Assist position is a licensed advanced practice provider (PA-C or APRN) who, in addition to clinical responsibilities with his/her collaborative physician and is credentialed and has privileges as a First Assist, has responsibility for ongoing oversight of a group of PA-C's and/or APRNs in a surgery program or service line. The role serves as the clinical expert/liaison for their specialty and facilitates the advancement, efficiency, and effectiveness of patient care delivery through project management, mentoring, education and role modeling in their specialty. In addition, the Advanced Practice Provider Coordinator serves as a liaison between the program or service line and the health system priorities and goals. The Coordinator will assist in developing and interpreting organizational policies for budgets and personnel; assist with orientation and on-boarding of new APPs with an individualized approach, maintain annual collaborative practice agreements with physician partners, develop staffing models to ensure adequate coverage within their service line, assume responsibility for safe and proper operation and quality control of equipment, techniques, and procedures; and analyze and evaluate activities to assure quality patient care. Additional qualifications include superior interpersonal skills with an ability to articulate a vision and influence others in the support of broad objectives and accomplishment of strategic aims. The Coordinator will need to quickly establish credibility, role model collegiality and respect, and maintain ongoing trusting relationships with physicians, leaders, staff, strategic partners and the community. Excellent communication, multidisciplinary teambuilding and conflict resolution skills are required. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the advance practice provider role (PA-C or APRN) in assigned surgery program or service line. This position is also reserved to promote someone who is in a first assist position and is not meant to only be a coordinator for other APPs in first assist positions. This individual must also be credentialed and have privileges as a First Assist in order to be promoted into this position.
- Contributes to planning goals and objectives for the service line and team and assists with leadership in coordination of activities and programs specific to APP role in those goals.
- Documents needs for changes in staffing/budget and makes recommendations to direct-line Director or Administrator, and the APP Director.
- Manages and evaluates performance of APP personnel in collaboration with the input from their collaborative physicians, Medical Director and/or direct-line Director or Administrator.
- Active involvement in interviews, selection, and hiring.
- Develops and monitors the orientation process for new APP’s; assists them in identifying and meeting learning needs related to position responsibilities; encourages continued professional growth and development. Coordinates the FPPE/OPPE process for the assigned APP group.
- Responsible for work schedules and assignments, on-call arrangements; and emergency changes. Performs all aspects of clinical and administration duties as scheduled.
- Responds flexibly to needs of the team in terms of work assignments, duties outside of the rotation and in the teaching and supervision of students and trainees as well as the effect on the department to meet the patient care needs.
- Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings; facilitates communication among the members of assigned service line. Acts as liaison between APP group and health system.
- Develops and maintains quality improvement programs for APPs in cooperation with the surgery program, service line or department initiatives.
- Develops productivity and quality goals and measurements.
- Plans in-service educational activities.
- Mentor new advance practice providers.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience
- Master Degree Nursing APRN OR
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant
- 2 or more years relevant work experience as an APP-PA-C or NP
Required Licensure and Certification
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) - State Board of Nursing current advanced practice license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations) OR
- Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts current advanced practice license for the State of Kansas and/or Missouri (depending on practice locations)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) if working in an ICU
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) BLS
- Additional specific certification may be required depending on specialty
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (AST) This JD is reserved for the APP already in a First Assist position and must be credentialed and have privileges as an APP Surgery First Assist.
